What we collect

• Account info: email, display name, role, and (for rescues) organization details + EIN.
• Sightings: photos, videos, descriptions, exact coordinates, and timestamps.
• Location: your approximate browser location, only when you opt in for nearby alerts or distance sorting.
• Donations: name, email, and payment details handled by Stripe. We do not store your card number.
• Messages: stored to deliver them between users.

How we protect exact locations

Sighting coordinates are only exposed to verified rescues, TNR groups, caretakers, and admins. Spotters and signed-out visitors see distance only, rounded to a ~7-mile grid. This is enforced at the database row-security layer, not just in the UI.

How we use your data

• To run the service: showing sightings, routing donations, sending nearby alerts you opted in to.
• To prevent abuse: rate limits, report triage, ban enforcement.
• To improve the service in aggregate. We don't sell your data.

Sharing

We share data with: Stripe (payments), Supabase (hosting and database), Google Maps (geocoding and map tiles), and law enforcement when legally required.

Retention

Account data is kept until you delete your account. Sightings can be deleted by their reporter at any time. Donation records are kept for accounting/legal compliance.

Your rights

You can request a copy or deletion of your data by emailing hello@catmaps.app. EU/UK users have additional rights under GDPR.

Children

CatMaps is not intended for users under 13.
